About the project

“We shall nobly save, or meanly lose, the last best hope of earth. Other means may succeed; this could not fail. The way is plain, peaceful, generous, just – a way which, if followed, the world will forever applaud”

Abraham Lincoln

Washington DC, 1862

The question

Are we living lives we will Forever Applaud; Doing, Being, Working, Consuming, etc. in ways that will always make us proud of ourselves?

The background

In 2016, @stace.c.m from @revisionsociety spoke @RisingMinds @shoreditch.house. Stacey’s talk was on “The Culture of Consumption: How will our conscience affect our future.” In her talk, Stacey shared Lincoln’s 1862 address, summarised here and below, “We can succeed only by concert. It is not ‘can any of us imagine better, but, ‘can we all do better? … The occasion is piled high with difficulty and we must rise with the occasion. As our case is new, so we must think anew, and act anew … The way is plain, peaceful, generous, just – a way which, if followed, the world will Forever Applaud.” Stacey summarises this beautifully, “Lincoln’s words guide us to consider the present occasion – the present potential – to collectively create immense and beautiful change.”

Wow. Those words really stuck with me. There is a lot in those words to be curious about and explore, especially now.

The project

This project is an experiment in people collecting – Can we get people to come along with us?

This project is about collective action – Will these people help us define what ‘Forever Applaud’ means?

This project is about inquiry into individual actions and behavior – Can raising this question to inspire people to ask themselves – Am I living a life I will always be proud of?

This project is a call for creative people to do three things:

As you will see, these words come to take on their own meaning. Many find them to have a feeling of community, sharing positivity and inspiring people to keep on in their creative pursuit – whatever that might be.

We hope you will join us.
